By Car: Take the Merlin Exit (#61) off of I-5
(about 3 miles north of Grants Pass). Go west on Merlin-Galice Road. You'll
pass through the town of Merlin. Continue on this road, crossing over the Rogue
River at Hellgate Bridge. The Galice Resort is approximately 16 miles from the
freeway and is marked by a small sign and a gas pump. If you cross the Rogue a
second time, you've gone about 7 miles too far. Destination
Wilderness provides all transportation from Galice to our launch site, and back
to Galice from our take-out. Additional transportation to and from Medford or
Grants Pass can be arranged for an additional fee.
- What to Bring and
Wear
It's recommended that you bring
clothes and gear that allow you to layer your clothes for temperature
differences and have both a wet and dry set of clothing. Layers allow you to
peel off or add clothes as the temperatures in the canyon change. Having a wet
set and dry set of clothes ensures comfort and warmth each night in case your
day gear gets wet.
Try to pack light. All your gear must fit in one
waterproof bag (16" in diameter and 33" in height) which we provide for each
guest. We also bring several waterproof boxes and bags for cameras, books,
etc.
Packing List: It's important to follow the
packing list provided below, especially as it relates to protective
gear/clothing. Please remember that Rogue River trips are wilderness trips and
thus, each person can be exposed to the shifting moods of mother nature. It's
possible that it will rain, be very cold, be very hot and everything in
between.

rafts, inflatable kayaks, safety equipment, Coast Guard approved rafting life
jackets, and waterproof bags. Please Note: All personal and camping gear is
carried down river with us on oar-powered gear boats.
Gourmet
Meals: All meals are provided on our Rogue River whitewater trips
including freshly prepared breakfasts, gourmet deli-style lunches and gourmet
dinner meals. All meals are prepared with only the freshest ingredients.
Shuttles: We provide shuttles between the rendezvous and river
at the beginning and end of your Rogue River Trip.
Camp
Shelters: Camp tarps are provided on every Rogue River trip which all
guests can sit and eat under or just relax in case of rain or to avoid sun
exposure. We also carry EZ-Up shade tents that can be quickly set up for
comfort at lunch during hot summer days.
Personal Camping Equipment: Sleeping bags, sleeping pads,
tents and camp chairs are provided on all Rogue River rafting camp trips by
Destination Wilderness. Bedding and linens are provided by the lodge on all
Rogue River lodge trips.
Showers: Destination Wilderness is proud to provide private
shower "huts" on all our Rogue River whitewater rafting trips. These
“huts” are set up in convenient and private locations. The shower
“hut” features hot water that pours from a thermal bag securely
nestled above your head. Our guests find these “huts” to be a
deluxe addition to their trip.
Bathrooms: We generally camp in areas that include
away-from-camp pit toilets maintained by government agencies that monitor the
river. However, we also carry a portable toilet (similar to motor home toilets)
that is used if we camp in an area that doesn't have pit toilets. We'll set up
bathroom facilities in a private and scenic spot away from the the camping
area.
