"This past July my husband and
I were privileged to take a rafting trip down the Rogue river and stay in
several of the historic lodges that line its bank. This was a trip I had
thought of doing for many years, and the trip did not disappoint. In fact, it
was extraordinary. The river itself was pristine, the wildlife abundant, the
weather wonderful, the company fascinating...we enjoyed and benefitted from the
knowledge and skill of our wonderful guides. We'll remember it always."

Rogue River Trip Overview
The Rogue river is an ideal place for a wilderness
rafting adventure. The beauty, seclusion, wildlife, proximity to major
population centers and playful rapids make a Rogue trip with Destination
Wilderness a fun and rewarding experience. Here, you can discover a world of
difference!
Designated a National Wild
and Scenic River in 1967, the Rogue still retains the same beauty and secluded
character as it did more than thirty years ago. The narrow confines of the
Rogue canyon create some of the best whitewater in the west. Never fierce, this
river is always fun. Most rapids here are boulder-choked mazes splashing down
quick turn raceways with giant, smooth black boulders lining the river. Rafts
squeeze through mini-canyons that pool into big calms below. Add to this our
personable and caring professional guides, seamless logistics, gourmet meals,
and the fact that we leave no stone unturned in terms of safety practices and
customer service. The result is a river trip of legendary proportions that
creates fond lifetime memories.
Trip Itinerary
We offer two types of trips on the Rogue:
camp
trips, where each night is spent on a pristine white sand beach or
forest meadow (we provide all camping gear) and wilderness
Rogue river lodge
trips, where we overnight in rustic and charming lodges that are
tucked quietly into the forest just above the river. This first section details
the first day regardless of trip style. We then describe the camp versus the
lodge trip. Both trips run the same stretch of great river and take in all of
the Rogue's magical sights and sounds.
Day
One: Your trip leader and river shuttle vehicle will meet you just
downstream of the Galice Resort early in the morning on the first day of your
rafting trip. After a brief introduction, the trip leader will distribute
waterproof "dry" bags. You'll then pack your camp clothes, sleeping bag, etc.,
into the dry bag (keep any items you want during the day out of this dry bag,
as we have separate "day" dry bags). After packing your dry bag we provide
breakfast at the Galice Resort, answer any last minute questions you may have
and make sure your car is parked in the appropriate parking area. We then board
the shuttle vehicle for the short, scenic drive to the rafting launch point.
Here, you participate in a thorough instructional and safety presentation.
Then, it is on to the river! Fun whitewater, peaceful calms and magnificent
scenery will fill your senses and a gourmet deli-style lunch will fuel your
system for the afternoon of rafting. After the initial stretch of river, we
reach Rainie Falls , a thundering drop that we skirt by walking around or by
running a sneak channel, depending on water levels.

More phenomenal
rapids and scenery are found below Rainie Falls before reaching camp later in
the afternoon. We make camp on a sandy beach or forest meadow, enjoy an
afternoon snack and unwind as the guides make the first of many delicious
dinners. In the evening we listen to the river and share tales of the Rogue as
twilight consumes the canyon.
Subsequent
Days (The number of days depends on your trip length): For
Camp Trips: Each day on the Rogue follows a similar routine although no two
days are alike. Breakfast, a multi-course affair with hot cowboy coffee or
campfire cocoa is served as the sun rises in the canyon. After breaking camp
and loading the rafts, we run rapid after exhilarating rapid, drift through
idyllic calms, marvel at the rock formations, watch eagle and osprey as they
circle overhead, as well asenjoy the scenic wilderness. Depending on the day,
we may visit Zane Grey's former writing getaway, hike up to one of the many
side creek waterfalls or visit a remote wilderness lodge. Lunch is set up each
day around noon with more than enough delicious food to energize you for the
afternoon's rafting. In the late afternoon we set up camp in another beautiful
wild place. The early evening hours provide time to fish, hike, read a book,
enjoy happy hour snacks and beverages or take a nap. Dinner, in all of its
glory, is prepared and served with style and flair. You will eat to your
stomach's content meals that have been labeled as the finest outdoor cuisine
imaginable. The campfire lights the night sky and the sound of the river lulls
us to sleep. (During the summer campfires may be prohibited.)
For Lodge
Trips: After the first day we reach Marial Lodge, one of the Rogue's most
historic places. The charm of Marial is only matched by the warm hospitality
and delicious food. On day two we hike from here to the museum-like Rogue river
ranch, and then get in the boats for a fantastic day of rafting. We reach Clay
Hill Lodge this afternoon and unwind on the deck that has an absolutely
beautiful view of the Rogue. The meals here are superb! The lodges have hot
showers, warm beds, and homespun help.
Final
Day: After breakfast we float the river, enjoy lunch on the banks
of the magical Rogue and reach take-out in the early afternoon. Following a
celebration toast to a great rafting trip, we head over the hills back to
Galice. The drive is approximately 2.5 hours on a relatively steep and windy
road that affords wide views of the Siskiyou Mountains. We reach Galice
generally in time for night flights out of Medford. Note: The river take-out
point at Agness is approximately sixty miles from the Oregon coast. Those with
travel plans that include visiting the coast can have their vehicles shuttled
to the take-out point at Agness for a nominal fee.
