Idaho's Main Salmon
(5 & 6-Day Trips; Class III-III+) Idaho's Salmon river,

states, is a classic river. Broad, sandy beaches, roller coaster class III-III+
rapids, riverside wildlife such as moose and Bighorn sheep, emerald waters, hot
springs, ranch sites from days of yore, and one of the deepest canyons in the
world combine to form an unparalleled setting for a wilderness rafting journey.
As Bill Cross, one of our guides and coauthor of Western Whitewater, states,
"of all that I've boated, this is the nicest all around river I've ever been
on." Our Main Salmon journeys are perfect for everyone! Salmon trips include
all personal camping gear and air shuttle from McCall to Boise at the end of
the trip. Minimum age: Six during normal water levels; 12 at high water
levels.
-

blanket the canyon walls. Sandy beach campsites abound. Wildlife often ambles
along shore. Sparkling side-canyon waterfalls cascade into the river. Osprey

challenging, but not extreme class III-III+ rapids. Min age: Six during normal
water levels; 12 at high water levels.
-

calms. We take inflatable kayaks on this stretch. These trips are great for
those looking for fun but not overwhelming rapids and great mountain scenery.
Minimum age: Five years.
NOTE: For a great family vacation consider
spending time in Oregon's Cascade mountains at the

We are honored time and again to be the company
that provided someone with their first rafting experience, their first time
seeing a whale in the wild, their first time sea kayaking, their first time
watching a glacier calve, and so on. Most of our trips both near and far are
ideal for first-time adventurers, so much so that the easiest items to list
here are the trips that may not or are not suitable for those considering their
first outdoor adventure. In fact, only the California Salmon River Adventure
and Iceland High Adventure (the second day of rafting on this trip is very
challenging. It can be substituted with another activity) are not suited to
first time adventurers. All others are ideal!
All of our adventures can be found on our
Trips
page. We highly recommend any of our trips except for those listed above for
anyone seeking a classic day trip or an unforgettable multi-day journey. Our
experience tells us that your trip should render great memories. In fact, this
quote, from a recent client, sums up how first- time adventure guests feel
about their Destination Wilderness' trips:
"As a first timer, I had my concerns. First are we all
safe on the water? Then, will we connect with the crew and other guests?
Finally, will we be comfortable? By the end of day one I had great confidence
in the guides. I knew we were in experienced hands. That experience extended to
my second area of concern, social interactions. You all skillfully pulled
together 12 strangers to form a team of people who worked and played
comfortably together and grew fond of sharing time and stories. And my final
concern-comfort-WOW! Fresh coffee in the morning, great food, warm days, cool
evenings, music around the campfire (every nature lover's dream), not to
mention laughter, warmth, and silliness. Thank you all for a fun, safe, and
memorable journey."

traveling on their own. The vast majority of our trips are booked by

the type of experience they are seeking. Whether it is the opportunity to
socialize and get to know others or to be able to spend time alone with a good
